From the Road: A myFurever Story
Entry 1: The Road We’ve Been Waiting For
Five days in. We’re only now finding the words.
Who We Are
We are a mother and son — Lisa and Emilio. Eighteen months ago, a kernel of an idea became a real, working mobile application. Now we’re putting it in front of the people it was made for.
Charleston: The First Sign
Our first evening in Charleston, West Virginia, we went looking for pet people willing to be honest with us.
The very first person we met stopped us in our tracks. Her dog’s name was Lucky.
Lucky was Lisa’s dog growing up. And Lucky loved Lisa’s dad most of all — Charlie, who called him his faithful friend. Charlie is no longer with us, but both of us felt him in that moment, standing with a stranger whose dog carried a name that meant everything to our family. We know he’s cheering us on.
It was not a coincidence. We don’t believe in those anymore.
From that moment, the stories came.
There was the veteran whose dog doesn’t just keep him company — his dog regulates him. Helps him navigate the world on the hard days. He said it quietly, the way you say something you’ve known a long time.
There was the woman traveling with Kentucky Lucky. The two of them have crossed the country together. She is his home. He is hers.
And there was the man who talked about coming home from work. Every single day, the same welcome. Unconditional. Immediate. “That’s mine,” he said, meaning the love, meaning all of it.
Georgetown: Kindness and the People Who Believe in You
Before Louisville, we stopped in Georgetown, Kentucky. Through Lisa’s network of child welfare colleagues — people who have shown up for this venture with their connections and genuine belief in what we’re building — we spent an afternoon learning about mustangs from a friend with deep expertise in horses.
The mustangs were fascinating. But what stayed with us was the generosity. People made calls, made introductions, showed up — not because they had to, but because they believed.
We don’t take that lightly.
